Professional photography is not required. Many beautiful Pet Portrait Couture creations begin with simple phone snapshots that capture a beloved expression, familiar pose, or unmistakable bit of personality.

Your photos do not have to be perfect, but clear reference images allow me to create a more accurate and detailed portrait.

Whenever possible, choose photographs that show:

• Clear, visible eyes

• A sharp view of your pet’s face

• Natural color and even lighting

• Distinctive markings and coat texture

• An expression that feels true to your pet

• The angle or pose you would like reflected in the portrait

Photos taken near a window or outdoors in soft natural light often show the most useful detail.

Avoid heavily filtered photographs when possible, since filters can alter your pet’s natural coloring and features.

The best reference photo is often the one that captures your pet exactly as you know them.

Perhaps it is the familiar head tilt, the slightly crooked smile, the way one ear stands higher than the other, or an expression that immediately feels like them. Those meaningful details are often more valuable than a perfectly posed photograph.

Your pet does not need to sit still or look directly at the camera. Candid snapshots are welcome.

Please submit several photographs whenever possible. Different images may provide different information:

• One may show the best expression

• Another may show coat color and markings more accurately

• A side view may clarify the shape of the face or ears

• A full body photograph may help with proportion and posture

I can use details from multiple reference photos to create one cohesive portrait.

Your original photo does not need to look like the finished portrait.

Depending on the image and collection selected, I can often thoughtfully refine or remove:

• Collars, tags, and leashes

• Busy or distracting backgrounds

• People, furniture, and unwanted objects

• Minor tear staining or eye discharge

• Dirt or discoloration around the muzzle

• Small distractions in the coat

• Visual clutter surrounding your pet

These adjustments are made carefully so your pet still looks natural and unmistakably like themselves.

Some of the most meaningful photographs are not technically perfect. If your pet has passed away, I understand that the images you have may be older, softly focused, printed, cropped, or limited in number.

Please send the photographs that best preserve how you remember your pet. I will carefully evaluate them and let you know what can be created from the available detail.

Whenever possible, include additional images that show your pet’s eyes, coloring, markings, and characteristic expressions.

If you submit a photograph created by another professional photographer, you must have written permission or an appropriate license allowing that photograph to be used as reference for custom artwork.

Purchasing a print or digital image does not always transfer copyright or permit artistic reproduction. Please contact the original photographer when necessary to obtain permission before submitting the image.

You are responsible for confirming that you have the right to authorize its use.

Multiple pets can often be included in one portrait, even when they were never photographed together.

Please provide several clear photographs of each pet. Images taken from similar angles and perspectives are especially helpful when creating a natural, cohesive composition.

The recommended size, composition, and pricing may vary according to the number of pets and complexity of the artwork.

I may still be able to work with a less than ideal image, but the following can limit the detail and accuracy of the finished portrait:

• Extremely small or blurry photographs

• Screenshots instead of original image files

• Strong shadows covering the eyes or face

• Heavy filters that alter color or facial features

• Photos taken from a great distance

• Images with important features cropped out

• Photographs in which the pet’s face is heavily obstructed

Never assume your favorite photo will not work. Send it along with any additional options, and I will help you choose the strongest reference.

Whenever possible, send the original photograph directly from your phone, camera, or computer.

Avoid sending screenshots, images downloaded from social media, or files repeatedly sent through text messages, since these methods can reduce image quality and remove valuable detail.
